Project Aim
The project was to replace the temporary, seasonally-operated cycle hire building at Windermere station with a permanent, flagship cycle centre that will compliment the adjacent built environment, employ and train skilled staff, enable year round opening and provide improved cycling provision for local residents, cycle commuters and cycle tourists.
Practicalities and Activities of the Project
Country Lanes-Windermere operates cycle hire and short breaks that combine leisurely cycling with over night stays in quality accommodation. Expert route advice, quality bike hire, discounts at local attractions, luggage transfer and personal service complete the package.

Achievements
The local community has benefited from an enhanced station precinct environment, reduction in C02 emissions, and the wider economic, social and environmental benefits of sustainable cycle tourism. Local residents benefit further from our free “Dr Bike” safety checks, “Make Friends With Your Bike” maintenance classes and guided rides.
Our local business partners derive direct income from Country Lanes cycle hire and tours: accommodation providers, local attractions, village shops, pubs, tea-rooms and transport providers.
Country Lanes staff have benefited from jobs being safeguarded, additional job creation and training.
Added value of the NWDA
The RRC funding has enabled Country Lanes to remain open at the unique business location at Windermere Station Precinct and replace the existing portacabin with a more permanent flagship cycle centre. Local employment has been safeguarded and additional jobs created.
