North West Development Agency (NWDA)
The North West Development Agency’s Regional Economic Strategy 2003 provides the regional framework for economic development. The Agency is also the main source of funding to support regeneration activity, which is, along with Business Development, Skills and Employment, Infrastructure and Image, one of its five main priorities. The Agency’s main objectives for regeneration are to secure rural renaissance, urban renaissance and economic inclusion.
Working with the Agency the County Council has helped establish two new regeneration companies West Lakes Renaissance (WLR) and Rural Regeneration Cumbria (RRC), to take the lead role in supporting regeneration in the rural areas, and in the more urbanised areas of Furness and West Cumbria. The Next Steps strategy provides the overall context for the work of Rural Regeneration Cumbria and the New Visions strategy provides the overall context for the work of West Lakes Renaissance.
